April 2012

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to what is proving to be a wet and windy start to the summer term.  It is lovely to see some of our girls in their pretty summer dresses but I do feel a little shiver when I look at them!

Our drama exams for Years 1 and 2 are on Friday 4th May and certificates for these will be presented at Speech Day.  If you would like your child to take the exam, for which they have already been rehearsing, then please could you return the application form at the end of this letter, along with £3 fee, to school by the end of this week at the latest.

Please could you ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled particularly P.E. kit which is becoming increasingly difficult to identify.

We are still collecting Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers so please continue to bring them into school.

We have already started to plan for the summer Playscheme and we are offering “Bring 2 children and get the 2nd child at half price” for people who book and pay in advance.  This offer is valid until half term so please contact Mrs Debbie Tedstone or me to take advantage of this offer.  This will also apply to children who do not attend The Phoenix so please spread the word.

Tasha Cooke (Mrs Cooke’s daughter) has started to run a tap class after school on Tuesdays at a cost of £5 and this is becoming very popular.  Please contact Tasha if you would like your child to take part in these tap classes.

Clubs have started and Shane, our new football coach, is proving to be a huge success with the children.  If you would like your child to attend any of our clubs then please complete the form at the end of this letter and return it to your child’s class teacher.

This term we are offering Tattybumpkins, a yoga based activity, as a club on Thursday afternoons.  The Early Years session will be from 3.00pm – 3.30pm and the KS 1 session will be from 3.30pm - 4.00pm.  The cost is £3 per session and the club will begin on 26th April 2012 for 10 weeks so if you wish your child to take part in this activity please send in your money at the beginning of the summer term.  If your child has a friend that does not attend the school but who would also like to take part in the Tattybumpkins activities they by all means please invite them to do so.

The children have been working very hard at their foreign language skills and Mrs Hamilton thinks that the children now need lots of opportunities to practise these skills.  To enable this we are going to make each Friday morning a French morning where we communicate in French only.  This was trialled just before the Easter holiday and it was a huge success and proved to be enormous fun so be prepared to chat to your children in French!

You will be pleased to know that we have qualified for Early Years Funding and this will be start this term.  Contracts will be sent home for the children that qualify and I would be grateful if you could return these to school as soon as possible.

We have now been approved by the Willingham Parish Council to use the village sports facilities including the pavilion.  This is really exciting news and we intend make Wednesday sports afternoons a regular feature in our curriculum.  Sports Day this year will be held at the grounds and I am sure the location will make it a super day.

I have noted a few dates at the end of this letter but for more information please refer to the events page on our website for more details.

I trust you all have a super summer term and I look forward to catching up with all the news from the Easter holiday.

With best wishes
